Welcome
Most of my work is repair, restoration and set up of the double bass. I also try to keep a small number of new instruments on hand. I handle the Calin Wultur line of doublebasses: Visit Website

These instruments are made in Romania and I feel represent an excellent value. The wood though often not visually spectacular is almost always well quartered (More highly figured wood is also available as an upgrade) and the basses exhibit good clean workmanship.

The basses I've brought in have been consistently loud, very responsive with strong fundamentals. They also make a laminated bass finished in a spirit varnish with solid wood sides that when available at around $2000 is a really an excellent value. These have been very loud instruments which, while lacking somewhat in richness of tone have many of the same characteristics of their carved cousins.

Players are almost always surprised when I tell them the bass they have been playing is laminated. I will usually throw out or modify the endpins that come with the instruments. I'm thinking of making them into Xmas ornaments. All basses I sell have screw on type crutch tip ends. I usually make the endpin sockets myself out of grenadillo, chechen, or some other dense FSC certified hardwood.

Because I've seen a number of tailpieces split, the tailpiece is reinforced where the flexible aircraft cable comes through. The bridge feet are well fit to the top and the bridge is replaced with a better quality one if necessary. On the carved basses. two piece wood and aluminum adjusters are installed. Small expansion gaps, filled with colored wax are put on either side of the saddle to prevent saddle cracks developing. The sound post is well fitted to top and back of the instrument.

The fingerboard is completely dressed to eliminate buzzing and the grooves in the nut adjusted so that clearance between the strings and the top end of the fingerboard is at a minimum (the thickness of a business card) The Calin Wultur basses also carry a three year warranty on materials and workmanship.

Though I don't often have these basses in stock I am also a dealer for;
